The government provides free education under its Universal Primary Education (UPE) and Universal Secondary Education (USE) programs, but the poor still have trouble with accessing quality education. Education is a main tool to eradicate poverty and ignorance, so without educated young people, the communities will become poorer and jobless. Each additional year of educational attainment can reduce the risk of HIV infection and delay a woman’s first pregnancy. Educated women decide to have a skilled health worker present at their delivery 84% of the time — which translates to a higher chance of survival for mother and baby.
As quality education is virtually inaccessible to the poor especially orphaned children and all the children are still demanded some amount of money in the name of building fund contribution by government aided schools where the poor parents are not in position to afford that money termly (every three months) and this has hindered their continuity in school and it becomes worse when it reaches the widows and single parents so that most of them don’t even afford scholastic materials for their children including school uniforms and food for lunch and breakfast porridge for their children while at schools.
Living Word Gospel Care Foundation is working on operationalizing formal and informal education.
- We have started a kindergarten and a primary school – LIVING WORD ORPHANAGE SCHOOL for the needy orphans and vulnerable children, to provide a fairly affordable, quality education to the vulnerable orphans/needy children in the area of our operation. The school will provide access to low-cost quality education, and double as community hub for educational support services.
- We also plan to have a functional skills centre to benefit older orphans, the marginalized women, single mothers and school dropout youths.
- We plan to conduct adult literacy classes for our local community women who didn’t have chance to access formal schools. Most women in our rural communities are disadvantaged that they are un able to write or read their names and their local vernacular or very common words in English like the word “Name” so that even when they are given any kind of forms to fill, they will not identify where to write or sign their name. This is out of lack of Education due to a number of factors like lack of school fees, early marriages, lack of nearby schools in the community (hard to reach areas) etc.
Our Approach
LWOGCAF Started a program of supporting the vulnerable orphans/Needy children with basic needs i.e food, clothing, some medical care and education.
Living Word Gospel Care Foundation has started a programme of supporting orphans and vulnerable children. Currently we are supporting 83 OVCs and 123 other orphans and needy children in our ministry school (LIVING WORD ORPHANAGE SCHOOL).
We support 9 widows sofa with some basic needs.
We intend to start skills training for the disadvantaged women, single mothers and youths.
We consider holistic approach essential, so we do witness Jesus Christ to the children, widows, women and men and the entire community to win souls for Jesus Christ. That is why we planted Living Word Gospel Church and also now having some bible study groups and not leaving the social economical aspect.
